Today was one of our more spectatular border crossings. We pulled up at the border of Zambia, all off the truck for immigration as per usual, and then got back in the truck to drive to the ferry. The border between Zambia and Botswana is a river with a barge to take everyone across. There have been problems on the ferry which has meant that lorry drivers are queing for days to get across. Passenger vehicles have priority, however our truck creates a bit of a stir when we jump the que! In the que for the ferry we were all then taken off the truck again. In the middle of all the confusion there are people selling carved souvenirs, so it is all on. We ended up with a few more souvenirs courtesy of the T-Shirt Bruce was wearing! (luckily he had another one underneath). We ended up on the barge before the truck, so walked up to Botswana immigration and got yet another stamp!
When the truck finally arrived we were off again, on our way to Chobe. In Chobe we were doing a game cruise, so we quickly put up tents and got taken to yet another flash hotel to get our boat.... It turned out we were at the wrong hotel! So we were put in another truck and taken to another wharf to join the cruise that had already started without us.
The highlight of this cruise was the hippos - we saw a couple of hippos fighting very close to the boat, and the elephants that were cruising around eating. We also saw Waterbuck which look like a dear just with a target mark around their butt! There were numerous Baboons which are always entertaining to watch! There were also a number of different birds.
The night at Chobe was our last night on the truck (Nellie), so of course it involved a few drinks!.
