Rock Out
Entry 8 of 21 | show all | print this entry |
Testing day... the day I have been trained for. Like I said before, my job was basically to light the Burner. And that's what I did. The client said he was ready to open the well and I stood by and watched. The Burner started howling and I was getting so pumped up. It was loud and raw, like a Metalica concert - minus the music but twice the pyrotechnics. Then came the first flares of HC... like belches from a dragon and still rather small compared to the end product. I was getting more and more stoked. But nothing was really happening. So I returned to the cabin to find out what the deal was. I asked Armand what was happening. He replied, "they just opened the well, so get ready!!" Sure enough, I stepped back outside and the burner pit that I was working in just hours before was lit up with the largest fire I have ever seen - bright enough that we could see after dark and warm enough it caused you to sweat when you stood 50 meters away. The fire continued on for the 6 hour test.
We finished testing the well after dark, around 10, and because the gate was now closed on the road to the base we headed to a smaller Perenco owned base two hours from the well site in the opposite direction. During the ride, I stuck my head out the Toyota Hilux to find a sky lit full of stars. I found Orion looking down at me and was able to decipher that we're headed due west. I ate dinner and took a well needed shower and finally hit the bed a little past midnight.
