Disco Fever at Palos
Entry 15 of 25 | show all | print this entry |
I have had a full week. Last weekend, again I took advantage of my ability to see the night life in Luanda. On Friday, I went to this club called Apollo. There were three levels. Starting from a dance floor, a huge projector screen hung showing English comedy skits and Madonna music videos while the DJ spun records and people danced. The next level spiraled up parallel to the dance floor, where a bar and some sitting areas were. Finishing up the spiral of floors was a private sitting area with an assortment of couches and chairs along with the DJ's booth that over looked the dance floor. This place was open air and had an island theme. I came to the bar with my Norwegian friend Erlind and his African girlfriend Telma - whose father was an important General during the war and has armed guards with AK-47s standing in front of his house. (Our house guard is armed only with a night stick, real safe) Another friend from the office, Sabina, and her friends joined us. There was a cover charge to enter of $15, but this fee also included three drinks. One of my drinks was a whiskey - which is a popular drink over here. For my one drink of whiskey, there were about 6 shots in my glass... He received a 100 kwanza tip!! (only about $1.10)
