We put on some music and enjoyed the classic coastal views. There was also plenty of fog and mist rolling in from the sea.
At the recommendation of Dave, who joined us on the tours in Valladolid, Mexico, we stopped at a small town called Pescadero. This is a quaint little town with a lovely little church. There is a small deli shop which bakes amazing bread. We bought a sandwich ("the godfather") and went back to the beach for a picnic.
We drove a little further, with more great views, and arrived in Santa Cruz, a small university town, very lefty. Apparently Republicans are shot on sight here! They also have California's oldest beachfront amusement park.
After a short stop in the town, we headed to Monterey, and spent the night in neighbouring Pacific Beach, a quaint leafy, tree-lined suburb which reminded us of Michael Myers and Halloween! Despite the horror we holed ourselves up in a motel and went to a lovely cafe and had an amazing meal with a lovely California Pinot Noir (getting into wine country!)
