Here we are the 3rd day in nagaland - thank god we decided to cut this short the first night we arrived. This is not the worst hotel, but it takes a close second. All I can be grateful for is the toilet-now that's sad. Our room is situated above the street, busy street, and it is worse than camping at a truck stop. The beds too are 2nd to worst-I can't sleep basically on boards with korean blankets, at least they're at a decent height to rise from. Tomorrow pam and I are splitting off from the other gals and going to jorhat (jar-hut) which is a city known for it's spa followed by a trip to kazaranga which is known for it's wildlife reserve, boating elephants and white one horned rhinos. Another thank god. We attended the first 2 days of the hornbill festival and it really was spectacular. The germans get into town today and I think they missed the best parts. We may go back this afternoon for the wrestling, but this morning we are doing the typical, "emporium" shopping, local museum and market. I am really looking forwrad to this group split. I think the other gals will be happy to be rid of us as well. Pam and I are just happier funnier people, and we're not interested in every minute anthropologic detail of everything under the sun. yesterday, terry was taking notes during the dance program, while I sat back, took a few pictures and enjoyed the morning sun. Tomorrow Sharon and Terry are going to yet another tribal area, I could write out the specifics, but really, who cares???? They are going to live in huts and sleep on the floor and cook by the fire. Pam and I will be getting a massage and soaking in a tub, then we will ride the elephants at sunrise and take a jeep safari in the afternoon. Night and day. We will enjoy whatever food and not complain about it being greasy or very little meat on the bone, we will be able to feel like we're on vacation and enjoy our sense of humor.
STRANDED
Not really, just delayed. The Assam border is closed. This sounds bad, but is actually common place. Assam is always in some kind of Muslim/Hindu dispute. This has nothing to do with the Mumbai bombing. I hope to find an internet café and send off these writings, I won't hold my breath. Yesterday we went to the market, boy what a market....live: eels, catfish, frogs, silk worms, pink grubs, ginea pig, roaches, snails...dead: porcupine, guinea pig, squirell, rat, pheasant, dog, yes, dog. Lots o'peppers and dried fish. The museum we went to next was top quality. Marble floors, numerous dioramas- great. Lunch was at Dream Café, a very Euro feelign cooffee shop - good. Okay, I need to get dressed-this morning has been nice - for the first time: no place to go, nothing scheduled to do.
