Flag of Cyprus  , Nicosia,
Thursday, January 28, 2010

(February 28th) Today we went to the Cyprus museum. We had a tour guide and went through the museum in about an hour, which was not a lot of time. She taught us about the goddess of fertility and how many think it's in the shape of the cross, but it’s really a woman with her arms out and her knees up to her chest like she was giving birth. (The goddess is also featured on the euro coin.) We also learned during a time period (I forget what one) they wanted the empire to look strong so they made the statue larger than most people to signify straight of the ruling empire. They would make the body in the town where it would be displayed and ship the head from the castle to the town to be added. This way when there was a new empire all they had to do was change the head. How cost efficient!
