Our our original direction was west to Houston, south to Galveston, then down to the Western Caribbean on the Carnival Conquest. BUT we decided to fly east to Bermuda first. And were happy we did.

Sightseeing the town day!

First stop is Moody Mansion. Completed in 1895and restored to its turn of the century splendor, this 28,000 square-foot will give you a glimpse at what the wealth really lived like at the turn of the century. Any of the tweny rooms would be a welcome addition to my house.. The wood work detail will astound you. The one hour tour is $6, and you walk away wondering "why not me?"

The Galveston Railroad Museum? Why not? When we entered I was taken by the white people statues. They are everywhere in the old lobby. The admission is $6 (is Galveston a 6'er city?) There are lots of old cars - that you can walk thru, and engines outside on the tracks. A seperate model railroad exhibit is here. I never thought I would enjoy big trains, but I'm liking the styles and interiors. I even got to crawl (that means pull your body up) in an old engine.

We wandered down historic main street. The buildings are classic and well preserved. Nice to see that a town recognizes it's roots and keeps them well maintained.

Then onto Bishop's Palace. I thought the Moody house was "it." It is one of the most important buildings in America.  This Victorian palace is the house of my dreams. And luxury. Stained glass windows, detail is evident thru the "home" as the type of wood and grain on the doors have to match the wood going into the next room. There is a fireplace lined in silver.

The mantle in the front ballroom won first prize at the Philadelphia World's Fair in 1876 .The woodworking detail and massive stain glass windows in the half-circular stair case are a work of art in themselves. This is one showcase! Again it's the Texas $6 tour.

Ducks, I'm a sucker for them. Not the quack quack, but the amphibious type. You climb up and off you go seeing the sites and learning some history, then plunging into a lake, river or lagoon. And since Galveston has the ducks,  we did it. $12. But you buy the tickets at the visitors center. The pick up is across the street. Quack Quack!!

Ok, it's northbound for us - up to discover what Keemah Boardwalk has to offer our groups. It's about 40 minutes north of Galveston. It's nothing like the Jersey Shore boardwalks that are on the ocean. The "boardwalk" is along the bay. Lots of Cement parking areas. A few rides, which were lined up, so we skipped them, and lots of restaurants. We decided on Sawgrass Steakhouse. Diverse menu with seafood and steak, so we were both happy. It just happened to bo trick or treat night so we got to see all the kids in costume, which was a bonus. Then the drive back to Galveston.
