Our our original direction was west to Houston, south to Galveston, then down to the Western Caribbean on the Carnival Conquest. BUT we decided to fly east to Bermuda first. And were happy we did.

Todays a slow day. We're going up to The Royal Dockyard to take the ferry over to St. George, our favorite town in Bermuda (always keep the best for last is my moto).

I love the ferry rides. They are usually a short hop for an hour or so to somewhere. Unless you are on the Columbia Ferry from Bellingham to Juneau, then those are days on the ferry. But, still well worth it.

I don't think St. George will ever change. Being a Unesco site helps keep it quaint. It's all the small alleys and backstreets. The beautiful stone houses and shops. The Rouges and Runners Museum is where Americans learn just how close we were to loosing the Civil war. With the help of England who sided with the south. This is a museum worth visiting. So many Civil War relics and memorabilia in a non-American country. It's right up the street from the square on the left. It's on the corner.

We have swim suits so decide to hoof it to Tobacco Bay. There is a cheap bus that runs up the hill, but it's just a nice day for a walk. Tobacco Bay is the first swiming beach. And has bathrooms and food service. But the sand area is small. It's a cove type beach with large rocks at the end. The water is usually calm. Today the beach was inhabitied by a lot of small jelly fish, so we dipped in and dipped out.

We're taking the small alley over to St. Catherines. This is about a ten to fifteen minute walk, depending on what you stop to see, or who you stop to talk to. The golf course is most of the scenery here. Then you spot the fort on the hillside. We're a little warm from the walk, so decide a dip in the ocean is called for first. Then some lazy beach time before walking up the hill to the fort.

The draw bridg is open so we walk on over to purchase our tickets. The tour is self guided. Great views of the beach from the top, along with some "cannon shots." Down stairs is a mini museum, along with duplicates of the Queens Jewelry. Remember to bring a cover up if you tour the Fort. No swim suits allowed.

We walked across the street to Achilies Bay - a small beach with a consession stand and chair rentals. This is a good place if you have small childern. The beach is tight and more of a cove than the wide open ocean beach of St. Catherines.

Back down the hill, stopping at the Unfinished Church. This is a ruin, but the views and the stonework are worth the visit. Then ferry then bus down to Daniels Head. A stop at the waterfront bar at 9 Beaches before showering and changing.

Tonight we are eating here - anniversary celebration. As we walk over to the restaurant, the sun begins to set. It's pretty. We keep looking and begin to walk away. One of the employees stops us. Say's "you're going to miss a fantastic sunset if you

leave now." We tell him we have reservations at Hi Tide. He says don't worry, you won't loose them.

We turn around and walk back in our cabana and sit on the deck. For ten minutes we watch the sky explode. What a sight! And as much as I love Hi Tide's dining, it was an anti-climax after our custom ordered sunset. Later that evening we stop in at the bar area. The waiter signals that he saw us, then a few minutes later my chocolate desert(s) is on the table. Happy Aniversary he says. The "sunset man" must have told him.  A perfect day, and now a perfect night.
