Walking from the Bund to People's Square is like being in a cartoon. The sky is a little hazy, there are space age looking buildings, the store signs are lit up like a fantasy land, giant balloons float in the air and everyone is happy. It's a crazy place and we loved it!

The whole city is a hotch potch of extremes - the old town is lovely but over run with tourists, the streets close by are filled with the city's poorer people just going about their everyday business, next door is the French Concession - filled with large houses, leafy streets and exclusive shops and further along again is the train station which is just a free for all. We explored it all and everywhere we went we were greeted with smiles.

To put it in perspective - we even managed to get visas from the Russian Embassy in 3 days instead of 5.

If you are in Shanghai make sure you go to Yuyuan Gardens - they're one of the most beautiful gardens we have ever been to.

Perhaps another reason why we loved Shanghai so much was because we discovered that it has ABC ASIA which shows 4 games of footy every weekend and you can get a fair dinkum aussie pie at the Koala Bar.
