Lesotho is such a beautiful and friendly place. We went via a non existant border crossing and into the very north of the country where we stopped to help some locals with a flat battery. Funnily enough they had several batteries in the back of their ute but they were all flat because their alternator wasn't working and they didn't have enough money to get it fixed. Once we got them up and running they were off and we hoped that they didn't stall on the steep uphill and narrow dirt road they were taking.

Not too far from the border we stopped at a community school. The kids were beautiful, happy little souls. The school consisted of two one roomed buildings and had 500 students and 14 teachers. Many of the teachers were from the area and had left to be educated and eventually come back as teachers. The school was funded mainly by the community and donations and the children were actually in the process of building a third building for the school.

One of the teachers kindly took us on a tour of the area using the chance to practice his english. We hiked up one of the hills and had a picnic lunch overlooking the valley and villages below and to have a look at some Sani rock paintings. We tried to visit the local sangoma (traditional healer) but found that they were performing rituals at a funeral ceremony on the other side of the hill so decided to have some local sorghum beer and food instead. After about two sips of the beer/mouthfuls of the food we could tell that it was going to cause major intestinal problems but through sheer politeness and gritted teeth ate and drank it all.

If we had of had more time we could easily have spent a lot longer travelling around Lesotho.
