Traveling all around Thailand, yeah, I love Chiang Mai, sure, volunteering with animals, sweet, wonderful, but obviously it's not all perfect or easy. Saturday was a key day in the 'lows.'

-I was alone. All the nice friends I had just met/known since college had left on various new adventures.
-I was horribly hungover from the night before, with all the friends and dancing and drinking.
-There was a huge cockroach, with lots of baby cockroaches, in my bathroom.
-I was very disappointed that they weren't offering the vegetarian Indian cooking course I had wanted to take.
-Even though I set my alarm, I overslept and missed my trip--I hadn't paid in advance, so it's ok, but I still felt horribly guilty for making the company come to my friends' guesthouse to pick me up when I wasn't there.
-It just seemed to be an entire day of misunderstanding the Thai people around me and having no hope that they would understand me, much less be able to help me, be it with planning an excursion or ordering a coffee. Alllll day.
-Did I say I was alone? It's not always fun being alone.

Thing is, that's not even true. Gareth, the Scotsman who had met Pooja and Jess on Ko Samui and spent the night hanging out with us on Thursday, had written me a text in the morning and I even ran into him when I ventured out of my guest house. We tried to find a restaurant I wanted, and instead settled on a different one when we were lost and it began to pour, but it was still nice.

And we had fun talking with the Scottish man and his Filipina wife in the aforementioned Indian restaurant in the middle of the day. (They had lived in India, Gareth is going to India, lots of helpful connections were made.) Furthermore, we got to hang out later that night, with dinner and the Saturday walking street, where I picked up some awesome shoes for 80baht. So no, it wasn't all bad. At all.
