Finally a little partying and relaxation time! We knew that by the time we got to Amsterdam we would want a little more space and decided it was time to spoil ourselves. After looking around on the internet for quite some time and making a few inquiries we found an apartment for rent that seemed right up our alley! Just outside of the city center, small but functional, within walking distance of everything we needed…perfect! We arrived at the apartment to get the keys and dropped off all our stuff! And when I mean all our stuff…I mean all of it! We were changing our van and needed to make a clean switch. Once everything had been carried up the 2 insane flights of death stairs (look at the pictures) we got back in the van and made our way to the airport to the drop off point. We requested to drop off our old van when we got to Amsterdam and then pick up a new van when we were leaving, 5 days later, so that we wouldn't have to worry about theft or paid parking. We got a lift back to the airport and made our way back into Amsterdam.

I must tell you all how nice it is to just do laundry and make a meal and sit on a couch and shower! Haha! It’s insanely luxurious to have all this at your disposal at one time and to be able to do as you please and come and go and just relax. Chris and I absorbed every bit of it and most probably didn’t do as much sightseeing as Amsterdam merits but we got out of our stay exactly what we had hoped! First the apartment was wonderful. The owner redid the whole place and made it quite modern looking for what was obviously an older building. He had quite the flair for color and artwork and it was decorated very nicely. The fun thing about the apartment is where the bedroom was. You had to walk up ladder steps to get to the bedroom which was fun but a tad bit scary to walk down, especially in socks. I always went down backwards and very, very slowly but by the end we were pros! There was a nice big living room and kitchen where we chilled most of our stay.

To make our stay in Amsterdam even better, Adamo, our friend from home came to spend the week with us. Unfortunately our apartment was for 2 people only and the owner was very adamant about it, so he had to get a hostel but he spent almost all day and evening with us. What a treat to have a little piece of home right there in Amsterdam! Adamo is always biking around at home so in the land of Bicycles (there are more bicycles then people in Amsterdam) it was a no brainer that we all rent bikes. I let Chris and Adamo do the serious bike riding since I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was 14 but we all had a lot of fun riding around the city. The best part was bringing the bikes back in the middle of a mental rainstorm and getting lost about 10 times. Amsterdam is the most confusing place in the world. Their roads all cross and stop and you can never keep track of what direction you’re going in. Needless to say we were absolutely drenched but we took a tip from the locals and just pretended like all was well. They don’t even notice the rain anymore (Its alwaysssss raining there)! Well after all the busy days of walking around and biking we needed sustenance and boy did we all eat well! Adamo is a concoctionist (Not a word but it is now) and loves creating random dishes from the stuff around the kitchen, and with full support they usually turn out pretty good! We made pasta and stir fry and sandwiches and had coke and wine and ice cream for dessert!

I could talk more about Amsterdam but there are so many other places to talk about that its time to move on! Just remember…if you ever go to Amsterdam…do not try to drive around the city and do remember that every street ends in straat so if you’re lost and say "I remember the street is something straat" then your screwed!

Good luck!
