Bike, Hike, ?
Entry 70 of 80 | show all | print this entry |
Two days left, what to do? Rent a bike, shop, hike a mountain, get caught in a rainstorm, and sleep in? All of the above! Beautiful San Sebastian, what can I say, but this is where I would love to come back and live. It's been great being in Spain and finally I'm putting those 2 years in high school and semester in college learning Spanish to use. With the language coming back to me, I am teaching dad a lot of words and the two of us are flying around with ease.
Renting bikes to make getting around a snap, we wanted to see some of San Sebastian others don't bother to find. First starting on one end of the beaches and pedaling around to the other side, we made a reservation for a massage at La Perla spa, built in the 20's, and continued on our way. Having map in hand I led us along toward the outskirts of town where we found the university. Loosing the bike path I had to figure out the next move, well, the only way to the other side of town was over the mountain! With only 6 speeds on our 'pedal pusher' bikes, we hopped off and started walking; bike in hand, to the top. Sweaty from head to toe, (workout checked off) we sailed down the hill into the main part of town, past the bus station and back to the hostel to refresh before our massages.
Looking forward to this massage, as my neck has been killing me for weeks now (with each country my pack gets heavier), and my father needing some pampering, it was perfect timing. Robe in hand we each headed toward the changing areas and settled in for a 45 min massage. Coming out relaxed saying ah in relief it was a quick bike ride back to the hostel to rest for a while before dropping off the bikes and having dinner. Sitting at the far end of the promenade we ate dinner, while watching the surfers catch waves, fisherman throw out lines, and dark clouds roll our way. Not wanting to get caught in the storm we biked back to the rental office quickly dropping off the bikes and strolled back to our room before the real downpour began.
