There you have it, my time in Florence. I would say more, but I am so exhausted it's hard to recall it all. Having reservations for all my museums, chapels, palaces, and churches, I have been on a rigid schedule, but it has paid off. No standing in 3-hour long lines and actually getting in more than I anticipated.

1st impression of Florence: A beautiful Italian city plagued by tourists. 2nd impression of Florence after a few days: A beautiful Italian city with great art and plagued by tourists. What can I say; I prefer the smaller Italian towns in the countryside. With that said though, you must come to Florence to see the art, and if it weren't for the art it probably wouldn't be as touristy as it is. That means I would probably end up falling in love with this city.

In the morning when I am walking to the next museum or palace the streets are quiet and that is when I love Florence. Sculpture on every building, narrow streets leading to another piazza, beautiful palazzo's hidden behind magnificent gates and a river so calm a mirrored reflection awakens you. Of course this is when the city sleeps, Bologna was wonderful because I could walk around speaking with locals, enjoying my time, hardly running into any non-Italians. In Florence, they assume you don't speak any Italian, and are annoyed at how loud and rude all tourists are. This makes for an unpleasant experience. Frankly, I agree, but I would like to think I am not one of them. Really trying to use what little Italian I know, I do get a nice smile when I purchase something or say hello, it's a rewarding feeling! I still have 2 days left, perhaps my impression will change or I will be rewarded when I head further south into the heart of Tuscany.
