What an amazing first WWOOF experience! I absolutely loved "Messie Station." Sue and Malcom, my hosts were great, and Pieta and Fergus their two young children were wonderful. I lived down the road from the main homestead with Kelvin who lives and works there full time. Quite a character, he woke me up every morning by singing country music at the top of his lungs. Most mornings I painted the Cook House which Sue was redoing so that she could rent it out to tour groups, families, etc. After a big noontime meal, everyone eating all together, I could horseback ride (my stubborn fat!) Minty, relax, run or do whatever! Some afternoons, I helped Kelvin herd sheep or cattle on a quadbike and with the help of 3 or 4 of his dogs. One afternoon, I was enlisted (without a warning of what was to come!) to help 'crutch' 600 lambs. Not little fluffy lambs, more like 60 pound adolescent lambs and my job was to flip them over and drag them out (fighting for their very lives of course) to the shearers. I'm pretty sure I've never had such an upper body and arm workout! My arms are still sore!

Of course, just getting there was a challange and a two day affair. Two buses and a mail truck later, I arrived at the station which is literally the END of the road in teh mountains - you can't get any further away from anywhere than here I think!

Hey that's incredible. The house you stayed in was built for my family in 1984. In fact I recall it would have been my 7th birthday when we moved in. My father was a fencing contractor on the station in the '80s, and they had that kit-set house built for us.
You may have even slept in my bedroom, lol.
Hope you enjoyed your stay there :)
