Well I am here safe and sound and that's what matters. I wrote my first entry on my lap top but I don't have Internet in my room yet so you will all have to wait for me to post that later.

I am living in what we have termed to be a communist box. They just painted it but the bright yellow doesn't detract from the fact that it was definitely built for the purpose of space not safety. For some reason I have been noticing the lack of fire codes in this city. All the pubs that we have gone to have been in the basements and sub-basements of hundred years old buildings, but there is only one exit. There are these cavernous spaces where they have laid huge wooden tables and tapestries which make me feel medieval.

The people here are great. I have made some awesome friends. Class started on Monday and we have been doing a lot of intense language training. I feel lost but I did order turkey slices from the butcher without feeling like an idiot today. At that same market I was walking with one of the three bilingual polish girls and we were hit hard on the shoulder by this old woman. I was convinced that some Romanian gypsy was cursing me but apparently, with the great force that she "tapped" me, she was just saying "pretty, pretty". People have been agog with staring at my hair. Apparently curly hair is a hot commodity here. Who would have known.

This weekend we head down to the tartra mountains, which are the mountain ranges which originate in the alps. We are staying in a hotel for the weekend and taking a raft down one of the rivers. I am psyched.

One more news for everyone. I know some of you were worried that I was going to have a hard time sharing a room, not having a roommate in first year residence, well..... I scored and got my own room with two beds and all. I have defintly spread out and made myself at home, including going to IKEA last weekend to get a few home'y' items.

so glad to hear that you are safe and sound! it sounds amazing so far! im back in ottawa enjoying a little 'me' time in my appartment :) (that equals cleaning!) hope to hear more soon!!
