10 more days and we're on our way! We can't wait to hit the road but we're still in complete awe that our departure is just days away.
Thanks to friends and family, our "do it yourself" move worked out well. If there was a single more piece of furniture that needed to be packed, we would have needed a bigger truck. But the best thing about the move: No beds flew onto the highway. Matt's Motto: Any move is good move so long as your possessions don't get run over by a car. The cat, Nina, also survived the move and is really settling in to her new "country" home. We don't think she's ever lived anywhere with as many windows (or birds!).
September 30th was the official "last day" of work for Matt and "last day for a while" for Kristy. It's quite a feeling to leave a place after 6 years; exciting & sad all rolled together
Now that we have no more home of our own, we are now enjoying the hospitality of our respective parents. We're currently in New Haven and will be heading to Maine on Wednesday. We lift off for San Francisco on the 12th, the first stop on the big trip. Despite the major life changes we've seen, all has been going very well (knock on wood).
Our packs are ready (see photos above) and the contents of our apartment are safely stowed at Matt's parents. Matt's paranoia about losing the tickets and passports has begun ("How am I going to travel the world and not lose these things?"). He'll just have to get used to it.
Kristy - What a Sunday! This morning, I went to the local farmer's market with Matt, his mom and his grandmother and ran across a childhood friend from Maine -- Heather Hurst! We're planning to meet up tomorrow for dinner. I can't wait to catch up. Ironic that I would run into one of my old friends in Matt's hometown.
This afternoon, we met up with Ken, a teacher who works with Matt's mom (and an avid visitor to Vietnam) who gave us some great information about Hoi An, and some local contacts to meet up with there. He got us excited about the prospect of "stopping to smell the roses" in the different towns we visit. The challenge will be balancing this approach with our desire to see all that we can.

Happy Travels!
That is wonderful that you guys are fulfilling your dreams. I've always wanted to travel around the world! I can't wait to see more pictures & read about your adventures.
I know Ana has already told you the great news of my recent engagement. I would love any advice and suggestions as to how you handled your wedding in Kaui. I will contact your referrals & ask if they know anyone in Maui that can help us.
Enjoy your travels!!!
