Tigre and the River de la Plata

Our first trip out of town was to Tigre, which is about 45 minutes NW (on a train) of Buenos Aires. We had heard a lot about Tigre and how it is beautiful to go and take a boat around the Rio de la Plata. The train ride over wasn´t much fun, we had standing room only. But we got there safe and sound. After walking around for a while, we couldn´t believe our eyes! There was a big amusement park! So, can you guess where our first stop was? One only has to pay 20 pesos ($7) and that includes all the rides! This wasn´t your local Enchanted Village. We were at miniature Disneyland. Our first ride was on the orcas, where apparently it was a kids´ride, but we enjoyed it. Then we made our way over to the Pirate Ship. This is the one that swings back and forth pretty high. Well, soon after we got on, Kris pointed out that I need to keep my eye on the kid sitting directly across from me whose face was turning green. Toward the end of the ride, he couldn´t hold it anymore and I had to move my way over to the other side of the seat as not to get "any" on me. Luckily most of it went overboard. Seeing that made me a little queasy, so we took a break. 110 degrees later (or so it felt) we went on a few more rides, including one rollercoaster that we had to wait in line an hour for. Those 15 seconds of the ride were worth it though. Now, a few hours after we arrived, and having missed the start time for the haunted house, we decided to leave.
Next stop was the boat tour around the delta. This was an hour and a half of relaxation and pleasant scenery. We almost got on a boat that turned out to be just a passenger ferry. There are many houses on the islands of the delta that people commute to by boat taxis. We´d see luggage and dogs on top of these wooden boats as they ferry the people to the beach clubs or weekend homes. It seems to be quite popular to join a beach club or rowing club and each has it´s own compound on these various islands. We attempted to rent a rowing shell, but found out you had to be a member or know a member in order to use them. I would be concerned about navigating these waters though, as they twist and turn without many distinguishing landmarks.
We left after the boatride and were lucky to have a seat on the train all the way home. More thumbnails ...
