This was my first independent trip abroad. I drove from London to western Europe, across the channel on ferry. from Calais through Belgium to Amsterdam. I had an amazing time in dam and really felt a sense of achievement getting over there. Continuing across into Germany I got pulled over by the deutch police, search my car for drugs and didn't find a couple of spliffs worth of squigy black that was left over from the dutch cafe's. i was crapping it, so threw it out the window as i sped off up an auto-bahn, i can still remember catching a look out of my rear view mirror of the hash bouncing on the tarmac behind us. When i got to Koln (cologne)i had to use my forgotten secondary school language skills. This was me getting an early understanding the troubles and successes of getting around in foreign lands.
Onto another town called Mainz for a night then setting off after a bit of sightseeing, i travelled back via Luxembourg, Belgium and France before getting back on the ferry home.. this wasn't much travelling but as my first outing without school or parents or tacky Benidorm included, i navigated around these countries with my road map and sucesfully got home safely. This was when as an 18 year old i got the ambition to travel the world.. sad but true
