Curašao is the C island within the ABC group of Caribbean islands.. It's had and kept close colonial ties with the Dutch, which unlike many in the carib. who have shunned them, has resulted in an island with good infrastructure. On the big bridge that connects each half of Willemstad, the capital, you can see a big contrast, Coast direction you see a colourful, sunny, quaint waterfront town with Dutch style buildings similar to Amsterdam along on one side.. The other is a ghastly maze of steel tubes, large cylindrical oil tanks, tall chimneys bellowing dark grey smoke, old warehouses and many large container ships dotting the harbour sides.

I left a beautiful and cheap Colombia to meet up with my g/f who was coming from JA and because of visa restrictions to their passports had a limited choice of destinations, I wanted to meet up in the Bocas del toro of panama but she had a preference for Curacao which I should've try harder to change, bocas would have been a whole lot more fun and cheaper.. My entry to the country was a breeze, without a single question.. Hers, coming in the next day, was a little more time consuming.. The customs was convinced she was smuggling drugs and questioned her for over two hours and wanted to x-ray her.. But when she banged the table with her fist (which is pathetically small, reminds people of chuckies girlfriends hands) and told them she was hungry and thirsty so they better bring her a meal if they keep holding her, suddenly they just let her go !

We first stayed at Estorli hotel, in Willemstad, it cost a whopping $60usd a night for a windowless room, incl. Aircon, ensuite and tv.. But it was apparently the cheapest hotel in town. I had a feeling we were in the $50 room that was advertised and I was getting overcharged, they told me it was all booked out even though the place seemed empty..

Bringing my skateboard with me once again proved that it's a great asset in meeting and mingling with like minded locals. It is too hot here right now to skate during the day and I'd go down to the plaza on the waterfront where around 10 skaters gather every night to grind the conveniently designed and placed concrete seats. The town also has a small skatepark belonging to the Splash skate shop, it has many small entertaining things there, a great park that I wish I had locally when I was beginning, it's also perfect for experimenting with new harder tricks, if I had longer I'm sure I could've pulled some blunt stalls on the small-mini ramp..

The windowless box room got too much after a few nights and I wanted to get away on the coast, I found Lagoon Bloo on the Internet, an hour busride north gets you to Lag˙n, where it's located.. The place cost bucks!! $138usd a night, the most expensive place I've stayed in whilst on the road and probably ever will.. You get a beautiful clifftop seaview furnished 1 bed semi-detached house for the price though which is cool, and great for a 'holiday' for the misses.. The cliffs are perfect for jumping off into deep clear and calm water, I eyed them jealously everyday whilst obeying my girlfriends wishes (threats) forbidding me not to enjoy a naturally created adrenalin producing attraction por gratis..

Another natural free attraction that I have recently added to my interests list is the sky at night, I'd always been interested in the stars and a couple of failed attempts at recognizing constellations from paper charts stalled my enthusiasm.. But recently Apple opened up my iPod touch to 3rd party applications and enabled me turn it into an accurate handheld nightsky identifier. The application is called starmap, www.star-map.fr and I couldn't recommend anything anymore if you are even slightly interested in what shines above us everynight. I don't know if it isa good time of the year but I had clear skies everynight.. plus fuck all light pollution so got a good unobstructed view for my first nights of learning.. I identified a whole heap of things, currently my favourite is a cluster of stars in the edge of Taurus.. Scorpio is piss easy to spot and looks like an artist had painted the dots on a black wall... Shooting stars, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Orions bowtie (belt) all impressed me deeply and have been researching some fat looking telescopes to invest in since..
