This is being written after our first leg, and Its lucky that I'm just tapping this away on my iPod because there is no way I can grip a pen right now... We paddled in our canoes 40kms today, there is not much skin left on my hands and my arse feels like it got ran over by a trans-continental cargo train
Day 2 "Boca de San Carlos"
Because my money was running tight, with no hope of ATMs anywhere along the Rio San Juan, Felix and I headed "illegally" a couple hours over the border into Costa Rica in search of an ATM, we were arranged a ride into a town named Pinta-something??.. It was an very early start just before dawn but the howler monkeys were already up making their loud territorial grunt calls, similar to the noises Forest Gumps principal makes when getting it on with his mum.. I slept most of the way there but managed to see that Costa Rica who is supposedly well renowned for being environmental aware had chopped all the pristine jungle similar to that which Nicaragua have kept on their side and made it into ranch land and pineapple farms. After finding some lifesaving gardening gloves which are perfect for paddling our canoes we had to wait over an hour for the ride back, the two town drunks took a liking to my german friend Felix and as I kept my distance by sneaking into the Internet cafe next door I could see him getting along very well with them, drinking beer at nine in the morning, laughing, joking and a little air guitar every now and then.
The rest of the day was spent enjoying much needed rest for my bruised body, going down the river is not easy or for the weak..
