Last time I rented a car I'd tried to get to the morant bay lighthouse, but got embarrasingly stuck in the mud and had to turn back, this time I wouldn't be defeated so hired a 4x4 Suzuki Jimney to get me through. The road from ochi to annoto bay has recently been relaid, maybe to well as now instead of a pot hole induced average speed of about 15mph, the Jamaican drivers, esp. ones driving buses and route taxis, can now max out their speed and probably cause some terrible accidents in the next couple of years. After annoto bay it is still dreadful and the large tyres were well apreciated to combat the rough terrain of one of jamaicas main roads, we stopped in Buff Bay to see my girlfriends family for a short while and then set off for the lighthouse..

The weather had been a lot drier in this corner of the island since last time and the path which you follow along the cane fields where I'd previously got stuck was now passable in a 2wd compact.. I took to it like a WRC driver and before we knew it we'd missed the fork to turn down to the lighthouse and popped out in some little country town, this ment going around and back through the Duckenfield village to access the roadway again.. This time we made it and I spent a few minutes wandering around the lighthouse, took in the fresh breezy air and a couple of pictures. The keeper wasn't around to unlock the door for us to go to the top so set off to Kingston to spend the night.

After spending the night in Portmore I hatched a plan to drive around the very unvisited Portland bight area of Jamaica and visit a next lighthouse, this part actually failed as after a very long bumby ride down a small dirt track we came to a gated dead end. The day wasn't too wasted as we got to see the small villages in that area.. On the way back to ochi we stopped off in Linsted to see another relative of hers for dinner, this is where the 4x4 came in most handy as to get to the house you had to traverse some canyon like driveway to get there.
