It was really strange being in the USA, immigration was a breeze, a quick finger print scan and photo and i was stamped in. i'd always heard miami airport was a nightmare for travellers but it seemed easy, getting the bus to south beach was piss aswell, they even have an attendent helping all the arrivees who don't know how to read the huge amount of posters and paperwork that explain the many routes clearly.

I arrived at the pretty hip 'south beach hostel' and immediatly went searching for a new camera of the pentax w-30 variety and a few new t-shirts to refresh my wardrobe. I had no luck on either of the two and went back to the hostel to meet the hoardes of backpackers there. I haven't seen this many backpackers since maybe i was in thailand a couple of years ago and certainly not on my 'off the beaten path caribbean trip'. I had a great night of banter from a welsh guy who was waiting for a work visa in the caymans, my other backpacking drinking buddies were a dutchman and Gaz another welshman. The night was long and i drank many heinikens, when it wasn't getting late some strange black guy came and sat down and started talking about how adolf hitler down a lot of good. the good vibe ended and everyone went to bed leaving the nazi on his own.

The next day i hit jackpot with the camera and the tshirts, because off the late night i'd woken about 2pm.. got a taxi downtown and went in and out the numerous electronic shops they have there, they last shop i was going to try before i gave up and hoped there'd be something at the airport had the specific camera i was looking for. i snapped it up, went next door snapped up a cuba Lonely Planet and the headed back on the bus to Washington avenue and found probably the coolest tshirt shop in south beach, there i tried to limit my spending, not because of the price because that was dirt cheap but because i have have to watch the weight of my pack light philosophy to backpacking, i could have bought the whole shop.
