Knowing that we only had to do a short day trip to our next destination, we ate break feast at 9 and started only around 10 o Clock. But the day had its surprises ahead! We tried to pick up the bicycle path in Biasca to Ascona, and rode 3 times in circles. Finally, I noticed a funny sound on my rear tire and stopped. It was then that I found out that my chain was breaking apart. A repair was unsuccessful because my repair tool broke too. So we had to turn back to the inner city and search for a bike shop.

At Via Cimitero (Google maps 46.360997,8.972096) we found a small but great bicycle shop that repaired the chain in no-time! Finally we were able to pick up the road, and decided to cross the highway 3km south of Biasca center to be sure to find the bicycle path.

And there it was! Running along the river, with the highway at first to the left, than to the right. On both sides impressive mountains looking down on us. After little over 1 1/2 hours of flat bicycle ride we got to Bellinzona, were we rode to the cities park and took a lunch & lawn nap.

From there, we turned right and continued the bike path to Locarno, were we made a stop and took a swim in the wonderful Lago Maggiore! Bella Italia …Hmh Italian Switzerland!

After that, we continued the bike path to Ascona and arrived at our hotel - right next to the lake - at 4o'clock.

Day trip Summary: 4h30min ride, 62km, 358m climb

Tip: The "Seven" Bar at the old port of Ascona is a "must" in the summer. You can enjoyed a cold drink right at the waterfront. BUT BEWARE!!! Do NOT go to the adjacent "Seven Restaurant", prices are a rip-off and the food is tiny and lousy.
