After another short trip on the Train, Cassandra and I made it to Sevilla. We checked into our hostel and started our visit. There was a free tour that started in the evening that we elected to go on. We walked around the city and learned things from the tour. Sevilla was an old port town where Christopher Columbus took off from when he "discovered the new world" he did this in part because King Ferdinand wanted him to leave the country on a mission because it was rumored that he had an affair with Queen Isabel. He was pissed when he came back. Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabel both died from Syphilis, coincidence? I think not.
The other thing that Sevilla is known for is the bull fighting. There were bull fights happening when we were there, I just didn't want to go in. I cant handle that type of thing, I was told that they kill between 7-10 bulls each day that there are "games." Not much of a game for me
That night we went to a Flamenco and Tapas show. This flamenco dancer was so great. I was really impressed by her fancy footwork. There isn't much to say about it, but I will say, if you are in Spain you can't go without seeing a show.
We went to the Albazin which is like a miniature version of La Alhambra, it was great. Not as good as La Alhambra.
We certainly hadn't planned on being in Sevilla for Columbus day but it ended up that we were. There was a procession from the church that was right near our hostel to the church where his tomb is. The city was alive with Spaniards who came to Sevilla on a long weekend. People filled the plazas and the restaurants. We took a stroll around town to soak up the atmosphere.
The next day, we had a free day. We were debating on going either to Cordoba, which was suggested to me, or going to Cadiz. We decided on Cadiz. Cadiz is touted as the First European City. Apparently, as the story goes, the Phoenicians settled here forever ago as a port city to what is now the rest of modern Spain. We strolled about town, went to a fort there, and sat on the beach.
The next day we were off to Portugal!
