Stonehenge, Winsor Castle
We stayed two nights just outside London in Newbury.
We have lost all track of days and time. The hotel in newbury was fine not great just average.
Mom and Dad went off to visit with my great Auntie Hilary who is now 93 and frail.
My anticipation was very high as I have never been to see stonehenge and have always felt like it was something I needed to do. It is interesting that some things here in England I have seen for the 3rd or 4th time but anyone who has been to England will know there really is soo much to see and there is no possible way to see it all, even the people who live here haven;t seen it all
Well off we go to stonhenge, it's not a difficult drive from the hotel but for Bob it is on the wrong side of the road 75 miles per hour and the wrong side of the car! He does amazing! He is really enjoying the curvy roads and roundabouts, we have been honked at a couple of times and hit one or two curbs but thats to be expected! Driving in England is awesome. It's not for me though, which has put a kink in our plans a bit. My foot is still swelling up each night and still painful to use I am wishing that Pan Am was just around the corner, and I am beginging to think that it should have been put in a cast, had it been cast I would not have been able to fly, soo I'm glad they didn't cast it but I just wish it would get better!
At Stonehenge, the kids are completely absorbed, and it's nice to see, We have audio player thing that tell all the history and information about the "Rocks" and the surrounding area, Becky makes us laugh as she continues to say she thinks she'll do her heritage fair project on this next year, we continue to tell her "it has to be Canadian and Stonehenge is British" but she just doesn;t seem to get it, there must be a way to connect it to Canada, maybe she'll find a way but she certainly gave us a laugh. Brady is really interested
Bob really enjoyed the mystery of it, the fact that no one really for sure knows how it got there or what it's for. there is just a lot of spectulation, one myth is that Merlin put the rocks there. Anything is believeable when nothing is forsure, and it is this the intrigue of Stonehenge thats really fun!
The weather has been fabulous for our whole trip apart from the few moments of rain in Munich. The sky at Stonehenge looks stormy but the only rain we were to have would be while we were drivng.
Well off again in the car, we are driving a two door hatchback but it really is quite roomy.
We are now headed to Windsor Castle, which we saw yesterday from the motorway and decided we needed to visit,
Close to Windsor Castle is Legoland, and we are secretly thinking we'll stop in here for a birthday surprise for Brady, but as we get closer he figures it out
Well Windsor Castle is the first castle we have visited and it did not disapoint, this is the Castle that the queen lives in most of the time, It is beutifully kept clean and tidy, There is a lot of up hill walking though, and I am ok with staris but inclines are really hard. the Castle is open for display and inside there are Knights and Armour lots of Gardens and history. Inside the Castle grounds is St. George Chapel which houses the Tombs of many of the past royal family, including...The queen mum and her husband King George
From Windsor Castle we headed back to the Hotel. One miss on the roundabout and we ended up back on the motorway which would normally be only a five minute detour but because of an accident on the motorway ( we counted 4 cars involved when we finally got past it) the delay was over an hour. We found ourselves back at the hotel hungry and really really tired. Mom and Dad had been waiting thinking we'd go for dinner for Bradys birthday together, but had given up when they thought is was 8 oclock, they headed into Sainsburys for some dinner. The amuzing thing was they had spent the whole day 1 hour ahead because they were still running on Polish time, and normally it wouldn't really matter but they had been early to Auntie Hillarys and early for lunch and just early all day but not at all conveniant, as they had put off things thinking they were too late and arrived at things too early and were puzzled as to why people were weird with them, Everyone is really really tired.
We had a delicious bunch of sandwhiches from Marks and Spencers and were happy to climb into bed. As i drifted off to sleep I hoped that Brady had had a great birthday, it felt weird as we didn't really have a cake or anything it was just stange somehow , But I had to remind myself that we were in England and that's an amazeing birthday present in itself.
Tomorrow Spockport, and Warwick Castle.
