Cliffs of Moher

So, still on Inis Mor, we got up and hung out at the Pier restaurant until the 11:30 ferry arrived to take us to Doolin. For those of you who know me well, you may know that I LOVE the Today Show. Being a religious watcher, I watched "Where in the world is Matt Lauer" when he took his one week to travel to interesting places. On his day 2, he headed to Galway, Ireland and then hopped in a helicopter to fly to the Cliffs of Moher. Well, if it's good enough for Matt, it's good enough for us.
On the ferry, when we were arriving into Doolin, you could see the Cliffs, and they were magnificent.
Once we arrived on land, we quickly found a B&B, dropped off our stuff and began the long, very steep and exhausting bike ride to the Cliffs. I needed quite a bit of encouragement, so we had few stops - my two favorites were of course the much needed Bifi stop for nourishment and a stop a some amazing ruins. The view from the top was breathtaking. At this point, I - Oliver, have to interject some of my very own thoughts. "Quite a bit of encouragement" is a euphemism for an on-the-hill stand-off between Nandita and myself with her suggesting that we turn around and "take a bus up". As I am not quite 75 yet (and no offense to those who are), I refused and indicated that I will ride the bike up and meet her there. After a few more intense minutes of staring down each other, she kicked her bike into low gear and started flying up the hill - only to stop about 300 meters onwards and devoure her Bifi. That gave me time to catch up with her - the food must have done its part to calm the enemy down so that we continued our ride together...
The cliffs rise 120 meters (393.7 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, and reach their maximum height of 214 meters (702.1 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, eight kilometers away (we didn't make it this whole way - only to about 6 km because of time, but it was high!). The cliffs boast one of Ireland's most spectacular views.
One fun thing for me was that my usually invincible husband is afraid of heights - like really afraid. So, there were times that I would get a little closer to the edge than he would prefer, and he would freak out. Ok, a little mean, but he's been torturing me on this bike ride, so it only seemed fair... :)
After returning from the Cliffs, we got cleaned up and headed out to O'Conners for dinner and had our first Irish Stew and Fish and Chips plate. It was divine! Oliver headed to the internet cafe while I went back to the B&B. When it turned out that the internet cafe had closed (earlier than what they originally told us) he went back to have another cider!
ANNOYING THINGS THAT OLIVER DID TODAY: 1. Find the first aid kit after he said he left it in Galway. This really only matter because I managed to get a blister from the bike and needed a band-aid that we had to get from the B&B, which then rubbed off and my blister bled, and we had to keep borrowing band-aids... While I agree on my small little mis-step here, I must say that this blister has amazed me. I've heard about it every day for the past 5 days and had to secure "first-aid material (i.e. a band-aid)" from the B&B keepers for the past 5 days as well. We still have not managed to open our own first aid kit yet as it's closed by a plastic band. I'm sure I'll be blamed for not bringing scissors to cut the plastic soon...
