On 5/30 (no idea what day of the week that was) I woke up at 6:15 because Oliver and I were driving Anthony to the train station - he was an early departer and had to be back to work earlier than the rest of our traveling companions...
We had breakfast in Lueneberg before packing up the car to get ready for our drive to Berlin. We went over the parents swanky hotel and caravaned together.
On our way to Berlin, we stopped in a city called Viets. This is where Oliver's aunt (Giselind) has a summer farmhouse. Two of her sons were able to join us there as well - Florian and Julian. We got an amazing tour of this farmhouse - 350 years old!
It was amazing - it had a thatched roof that seemed to intrigue everyone!
We all ate fresh strawberries with fresh whipped cream and then were again on our way to Berlin. The weather was looking up... :)
Once in Berlin, we parked at our parents Hilton (yes, they are contributing to the wealth of the Hilton family) and walked around up to the Brandenburg Gate. We also stopped at Hotel Adlon and took a few pictures because Erin's grandfather lived close to that area when he was a child.
We then drove to Oliver's sister's place and dropped off our stuff and the car. We were off to dinner. Once we got off the subway and walked to where we were supposed to have dinner, we met up with Inga and searched for the restaurant - there was NO sign - it was kind of like that 90210 episode when Steve and Andrea had the egg and were going into gas stations.... anyway, it was pretty hidden (never mind the fact that once we found it, it's located in a HUGE old post office) and the food was fantastic... Stefan (Inga's husband came to meet us and we had a great time!).
The next morning, we got up and headed to Postdamer Platz where we had breakfast with very aggressive sparrows - they were literally eating off of our plates - it was very amusing.
I was officially sick at this point (thanks to the terrible weather) but the day was still amazing and the weather was looking up! We started our day with another bus tour (smaller bus) and got to see all the sites of Berlin - Hitler's bunker, Checkpoint Charlie, Embassies, Holocaust memorial, Brandenburg Gate, huge pieces of the wall,
the Mayor's pink house (ok, it's a red house, but he's gay, so they call it the pink house now instead of the red house), Charlottenburg, and the Island of Museums. I'm sure we saw more, but that's all I got... After the bus tour and lunch at the Currywurst place, we walked to the Holocaust memorial and spent quite some time in the museum.
We then went back to Dido's to get ready for dinner - apparently the Borchardt (dinner place) is the place to see and be seen (our friend Dani, who recommended it to us has sat behind Jack Nicholson). We unfortunately saw no one, but we ate great food and drank a lot of wine. We headed back to Dido's after that and Dido and I went to bed (I was sick!) while the rest of the group met up with Dani and had a few drinks at the local bar!
