Entry 77 of 91 | show all | print this entry

This morning we took ages to sort out all our gear and re-pack the car. It's amazing how much you manage to spread out when you're in one place for more than a couple days. Meryl RT'd us and asked if we were going to have lunch with them before we set off, so we said we'd love to.

I was a little emotional and when it came time to say good-bye we gave them their gifts and they seemed to like them and Meryl & Wayne had written a reference for us which was really nice. Unfortunately, Tony wasn't there so I hope he liked his sauce. I got rather upset and weepy and Robert laughed at me. It was sad to say good-bye, but we said we'd stay in touch.

We drove up the unsealed road for the last time and headed to Goat Island where we met up with Sarah & Alan at the only campsite there. It was really good to see them again, we went out for dinner and chatted for ages. Eventually Sarah & I went to bed and left the boys chatting till late.

The following morning we had breakfast and went to the dive shop and got all the scuba-gear sorted, then went down to the bay. It was a red hot day and we got all our gear on and down to the beach. Unfortunately Sarah had a panic attack as we were swimming out and had to return to the shore. We stayed on the surface until she was safely out then descended. I had the compass and took us towards the island. Robert and Alan swam around investigating. Alan went for a swim through a kelp field and I swam above him following, when there was a large hole in the kelp above him I went down and waved my hand in front of his mask. It was really funny as I was expecting him to jump but he never even noticed! I was laughing at him when he exited from the kelp and had to wait till we were back on land to explain why I was laughing.

We had some lunch then the boys went back in for a second dive whilst Sarah & I sat in the shade and gossiped. It was a lovely, relaxed day.
We returned all the gear and headed back to their house for the night.

Sarah & Alan kindly said we could stay till Wednesday when we'd decided to hit the road again and head South. We got some odd jobs done and spend a couple a pleasant evenings in their company. Again it was sad to leave them and their welcoming home.
