We left Auckland and travelled up State Highway 1 (SH1).  There were some amazing views on the way.  We passed through Orewa which had stunning beaches and cliffs, of course it helped that the sun was being in glorious mood.

As we had set off a little later than we'd planned we didn't stop to explore or go off the main road today and just headed straight for Whangarei.  On the way we went over the brow of a hill at, I think it was, Braigh, there's a cafe up and off the main road, and as you go over the brow (when the sun is shining especially) you get the most amazing view smacking you right in the eyes straight over the Bream Bay are stretched below.  Wow!

We arrived in Whangarei and found the tourist information, it had just closed but the lady was just leaving and gave us a map of the area and told us were the camp sites were.  We drove up to a Top 10 Site, it was very nice as was the lady who served us.  We got a membership $30 which gives us discount on the nightly rate at all the Top 10's in NZ and a chain of sites in Austrailia, and some other facilities and attractions around NZ.

We pitched our tent, as the weather tried to break and kept trying to rain. We succesfully cooked Uncle bens rice and tinned curry for dinner. Mmmmmm. We then sat in the car and warched a movie before turning in.

I always seem to need to go to the loo in the middle of the night when I'm camping and it's not much fun in the dark and the rain!
