Where I stayed
Hostelling International (Philadelphia)
We arrived at the door about 1pm and found two travellers waiting for them to re-open. We forced them to come and join us for lunch and a chill out in a park to wait. Introducing new friends Danny (from Glasgow) and Briar (Bournmouth)... Danny actually recognised Rob from Washington Greyhound station (we shared the same bus!!) Danny is travelling for the summer and Briar was comming to the end of her 9 mth trip. Spent ages swaping travel stories...
We had lunch at a pizza place round the corner from the hostel which turned out to be great value as the massive pizza worked out about $4 each to share
I really like Philly straight away, it had a nice atmosphere and the hostel was in a really good location, restaurants and pubs just around the top and bottom corners and the river just a couple blocks away.
We finally checked in about 5pm. We were in a co-ed dorm, Rob went on top! This was really clean and spacious and the bathroom had 2 showers and 2 loos! Luxury! We immediately did a laundry run (whoopie - clean clothes) showered then met up with Danny and Briar in the lounge, here we met a friend of Dannys that had just arrived, Fabienne (from Cameroon/France/Ireland).
We all went out together, Danny led us to the river where there was an Irish festival going on. it was nice to sit on the steps in the sun, just before we left we saw some kids doing the Irish dancing which was cute. We went for a walk, we passed the Liberty Bell. It was all lit up behind a glass wall so we got a photo of it. Because this was only a flying visit (we were leaving the following morning) I'm glad we at least saw it. We then walked to the chinatown area and five mins later walked out the other side of it, we saw a restaurant that had live frogs and fish in a tank in the window, urgh!
The following morning (this morning) Rob's man-flu is in critical! we packed and called in at the CVS pharmacy on the way to the greyhound. This woman gave Rob the finger (how rude) because he knocked her brolly on the floor, before he even had the chance to pick it up she gave him some slaver about how he should pick it up as he knocked it over! silly moo! (I acctually said someting stronger) Rob just shuck his head, I think the till lady was really embarrassed though. Got on the bus and headed in to NY.
