An update for those who donīt already know what Iīve been up to...

I flew down to Costa Rica Friday, June 10th from Minneapolis. Unfortunately, there was fog over the airport in San Jose, so our plane had to land in Panama City. Flying in to the city at night was awesome...Panama City is a spectacular site set along the ocean. The city was lit up and the airport was clear for us to land. We waited on the airplane and in the airport for a few hours (fortunately there were a couple of Brits with a ukelele to keep us entertained :) after which we were bussed to the Marriot hotel around 2 a.m. The hotel was very nice, but unfortunately I only stayed there for about 5 hours, most of which was spent trying to catch up on sleep.

The next morning we were bussed back to the airport and flew in to San Jose, Cost Rica around 9:30 in the morning. Fortunately, my host family knew to come and pick me up then, so I had 2 people and a sign waiting for me when I wheeled out my luggage from the terminal. Emilia (my host-mother) and Jordan (a fellow student-teacher) were there to pick me up and take me to my new home. I was pretty tired, but glad to finally have a place to call home!

I spent most of my first weekend adjusting to my new surroundings and sleeping. Jordan, myself and two high school students from Minnesota went sight-seeing Sunday...We went to Volcano Irazu which was pretty cool. We saw a few crater lakes that were a beautiful jade green. We also saw a spectacular view of a little pueblo set in the mountains of Costa Rica. Unfortunately our driver-tour guide was not feeling well, so the tour was cut short to be finished another day.

My most exciting news is from yesterday (Monday, June 13th)...it was my first day at my new school called Kinder Central. It had been a long 4 days leading up to my first day at school and I was still a little tired and feeling sick. But I was doing ok in the morning up until about 10:00 or so. I was standing in front of a group of kids with my co-op teacher and feeling very whoozy--to make a long story short, I fainted and banged my head pretty hard on a chair and then the floor. I donīt remember that of course, but when I came to blood was gushing out of my head and it seemed like it was everywhere--my face, my clothes, the floor...Anyway, I was feeling pretty aweful at that time and could barely sit up or walk. The school called the hospital and I was taken there via ambulence. It was pretty dramatic! Anyway, once I was in the hospital they stitched up my head, put in an IV and injected a heavy-duty painkiller that had me feeling much better in a matter of 10-15 minutes. I stayed at the hospital for about 2 or 3 hours, then went home. My co-op teacher and the director of my school were there along with Emilia which was great. They were all very helpful and considerate the entire time. Thankfully my co-op teacher was there to interpret as well.

So, I slept and ate very well last night and am feeling much better today! After I woke up I went to get a CT scan for my head (which the doctor who worked on me required) and also stopped at the school. I thought I was going to be teaching this afternoon, but they actually just wanted me there for a special birthday surprise. All of the teachers and the director had cake and a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me which was so nice. It was great. I think they were worried about me because of what happened, but hopefully I convinced them that I was doing much better.

Anyway, these are my adventures so far! Iīm hoping the rest of my stay will be a little more tranquil...I can only take so many rides to the hospital :)

I hope everyone is well!! Take care,
