It has been an incredibly rainy summer in Stavanger. Rain on 29 of the 31 days in July. It almost feels like it has been the same season since I arrived!
I think I have experienced more rainy days since arriving in Stavanger than I ever thought possible. It has taken some time to adjust to the weather here. Being from Alberta where it doesn't rain that often, you have the mindset that when it's raining out you stay inside. In Stavanger it is much different - if I stayed inside every time it was raining I might not leave the apartment for weeks!
With all of the rain comes a much better appreciation for rain gear. I own more than one rain jacket and more than one umbrella. I have jeans that are the perfect length to wear when it is raining so that the bottoms don't get soaking wet and I know which shoes to wear so that the seams don't leak
I have even caught myself saying "It's not really raining" on two occasions when it was sprinkling outside. A year ago I definitely would have termed it as rain.
Experiencing all of the rain and much less variation in the seasons has made me realize that I really enjoy the change of the seasons.
More importantly, I have a much greater appreciation of the days that the sun is out and shining. Something that one can take for granted living in Alberta...even when it is -30 in the middle of winter the sun is still shining!
Here's hoping for some better weather in August and September...
