On both the way to Oslo and the way home from Oslo we took the mountain route. The drive takes almost eight hours but it is the "fast" way to Oslo. Part of the route is called "Suleskarvegen" and it is a scenic route through the mountains. The route is only open in the summer and fall because there is too much snow in the mountain passes during the winter. In fact, the route was only opened on Monday.
Since we drove there and back the same way, we had our photo and tourist stops pre-planned. We visited the Heddal Stavkirke (the largest one in Norway), stopped at two waterfalls, saw the Telemark Canal and got some really cool snow photos out of the car window.
