We took a weekend trip to Bergen with our friends.
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and is located north of Stavanger. It is a beautiful city with a beautiful harbour, but it is also one of the rainiest cities in Norway. I guess you could say that we had a true Bergen experience since it rained most of the time we were there!
Bergen was one of the main port cities in the Hanseatic League. On Friday afternoon we went to the Hanseatic museums and spent some time walking around the Bryggen area.
On Saturday morning it wasn't raining, so we decided to take the Floibanen funicular to the top of Mount Floyen. There are great views of Bergen from the top. Since it wasn't raining, we decided to walk down. What a mistake - part way down it started pouring rain and we got soaking wet. I think it took a few hours for us to finally dry off and warm up!
We went to some more museums in the morning, including the Natural History Museum which could also be known as a 'dead zoo'. The Leprosy Museum was closed, so we didn't get a chance to visit that one...might have been interesting. It wasn't raining at lunch time, so we ate outdoors at the fish market. And, we finished off the afternoon with a visit to the Haakonshall and the Rosenkratz Tower.
In the evenings, we went out for dinner and then checked out some of the pubs in Bergen, including the Irish pub.
