May 17th is Norway's National Day. It is a day off from work and it is a big celebration day. There are parades...Children's Parade at 9am and Folk Parade at 4pm and everyone is out in their national dress. There are Norwegian flags everywhere you look.

Luckily the weather was great, so we got to enjoy the celebrations indoors and outdoors. We started with a Champagne breakfast with some friends from work and then walked into town. There were flags and dressed up people everywhere.

From there, we went to a lunch at another friend's house. We had smor-brod, traditional open-face sandwiches with lots of delicious toppings...shrimp, beef, ham, pork, etc and we had a marzipan cream cake that was decorated with the Norwegian flag.

Next, we went to watch the folk parade. Everyone was out in the streets in their outfits. We were trying to follow friends to find a spot to watch the parade but all the outfits looked the same making it hard to follow them. After the parade, we went to a barbeque in the evening.

It was definitely a busy day and it was great to see how Norwegian's celebrate their national day.
