At first I found it really difficult to shop for groceries here. Now, it is not too bad...I know some Norwegian, have developed new favorite brands and have found some really great grocery stores. I have certain stores I like for meat (Meny, Ultra or butchers), certain stores for good selection (Ultra and Meny), certain stores for good prices (Coop Obs and Ultra), good vegetable selection (gronnsaker) and the stores that are close (Rimi and ICA).
The only problem is that I can never seem to get everything I need at one store. And, there is never a guarantee that I will find everything that I am looking for which can also be frustrating. Just because a store stocked something a previous week doesn't mean they will have it the next week or that it will not be sold out! A few weeks ago all of the chicken breasts at Ultra were sold out so my Chicken Tikka Masala became Pork Tikka Masala. Last weekend Ultra was sold out of ground lamb so I had to go back during the week to get the ground lamb for my Sheperd's Pie.
I can no longer open up a recipe book, find a recipe and go to one store and get all of the ingredients. If I really want to make something and need all of the ingredients it may mean trips to several stores.
Or, I need a flexible grocery list...dinner options: roast chicken, lamb stew or pork tenderloin depending what the grocery store has in stock. I guess that keeps the meals interesting!

You are making me hungry!
I wish you didn't live so far away as I would like to get invited to your place for those good sounding meals!

Am hungry too!
Are you still in Stavanger?I live on Oslo, visit Stv quite often. This weekend for example. Would to meet new people. I make great spring rolls by the way.
