This weekend I went to Roldal for a ski trip with some friends from work. Roldal is in the mountains in Norway and is about a four-to-six hour drive from Stavanger depending on weather and if you make the ferry on time.

The roads in Norway are hardly wide enough for two cars when there is no snow. Add some snow into the picture and it makes driving an adventure. It was snowing and blowing a lot in the mountains. We had to wait for snowplows to take traffic through a narrow section of the highway. We waited for a long time for two snowplows to come and then all of the cars that were waiting drove to Roldal in between the two snowplows.

We stayed at an apartment-style cabin in Roldal. The cabins in and around Norway are similar to the ones in Canmore, Banff, Jasper, etc. However, there is one main difference. In Norway, you bring your own duvet cover, pillow case, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. At the end of the weekend you are responsible for cleaning the cabin. Inevitably you always forget something - i.e. wouldn't it be nice to have a towel in the bathroom to dry your hands with?

The ski-lifts were closed on Saturday because of all of the snow...seems wierd doesn't it. So, instead we spent time outside in the snow and in the apartments playing Uno. It is always good to go on the trips with Norwegians because you get to try different kinds of Norwegian foods. Overall it was a good weekend trip. It was great to see snow and experience some colder temperatures!
