I had a really difficult time deciding what to do for Christmas. My original plans were to not go home at Christmas time, but when Kevin was scheduled to work over the holidays I started to rethink that plan. I eventually decided to go home to Ardrossan/Edmonton for one week.
The trip home was quite an adventure - basically my 12 hour trip became a 36 hour trip because of the fog in London. My flight from Stavanger - London was delayed, which meant that I missed my London - Edmonton flight. I was the fortieth person put on standby for the afternoon Air Canada flight to Toronto. I waited two hours in an incredibly crowded airport and did not get on the first Toronto flight. So, I was put on standby for the evening Toronto flight and had to wait another four hours in the Heathrow airport. I ended up making the evening flight to Toronto. I arrived in Toronto around 1:00 AM with no luggage, found a hotel, slept for three hours and then was back at the airport to catch the first flight to Edmonton in the morning. I eventually arrived in Edmonton on Friday, December 22nd...and my suitcase arrived one day later.
Despite the long journey, it was great to be able to spend the holidays with family and friends. The trip was short and went by way too quickly - especially since I arrived a day later than planned!
