On the weekend I realized that this would be the first time I had spent the entire weekend in Stavanger since October 23! However, that didn't mean that it was a quiet weekend.

Since it is Christmas time, we decided to go out to a restaurant to have a traditional Norwegian Christmas Dinner. We ended up going to an excellent restaurant in Stavanger that is right on the harbour. I had Juletallerken (Christmas platter) with a sampling of traditional dishes - pork ribs, sausage, meatball, cabbage, and potatoes. Kevin tried the Pinnekjott - salted lamb ribs.

The translations on the menu made us laugh...my meatball translated into English was "minced fat and lean pork". And, the translated version of Kevin's dish came with "mashed svedes." We didn't know what to expect but it turns out that svedes...are turnips!

On Saturday we had a party at our apartment. I spent a good portion of the day getting groceries...it's really difficult to find brown sugar...and preparing appetizers. It was the first time that we have had guests over to our apartment. One of the critical things we realized just prior to the guests arriving was that our bathroom door does not lock...luckily there were no incidents!

After the party, a group of us headed out to a night club. It is really popular here to head to the nightclubs around 12:30 AM on weekends. It was a very busy night in Stavanger and there were lines everywhere. We did manage to get into one nightclub, Cementen, the one we always seem to go to!

Sunday was a relatively quiet day. I did some more cooking and Kevin packed his things to get ready to leave for work in Angola on Monday. Since Kevin and I will be spending Christmas apart, we had a mini-Christmas dinner. I made a stuffed turkey breast and roasted potatoes. Now that I have learned some Norwegian the shopping is easier!
