One of the wedding presents that Kevin and I received was a gift voucher for the Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. It was originally built in the 12th century and the estate is now a hotel.
The stay in the hotel was amazing. I think what really stood out for us was how impeccable the service was. It was a nice relaxing break to spend a few days at Ashford.
The weather wasn't the greatest when we were there, but that gave us a chance to see some of the inside of the castle. And, when it did stop raining we spent a few hours exploring the extensive castle grounds.
Both nights we had a five course dinner in the George V Dining Room. And on both mornings we had a breakfast buffet that included a full Irish breakfast, plus you could order additional hot items (pancakes, etc.) if you wanted. The food was excellent!
After dinner on the first night we went to a music (singing and piano) show in the Drawing Room. On the second night there was no entertainment, so we just had drinks in the Connaught Room after dinner.
Now I am going to want to stay here every time we come to Ireland!
