I just returned from a workshop in the beautiful village of Etretat, France. There are some chalk cliffs in Etretat, similar to the white chalk cliffs in Dover and Callais. It was great to be in France where I at least understand some of the language! The trip was good; I learned some geology, got to spend time outdoors, and ate amazing food.
Well, most of the food was amazing...some of the things I ate I would have rather not! All of the meals were at the hotel the course was at (Dormy House Hotel). We had three course lunches and five course dinners. I think that I managed to try more types of seafood in three days than I have tried in my entire life. I had crab, shrimp, squid, mussels, oyster, caviar, tuna, sea bass, rouget, mullet and cod.
On the way back from France, I had a stop over in Oslo. Since alcohol is highly taxed in Norway, everyone seems to get off of the plane and then go to the duty free to buy alcohol. I couldn't believe how crazy it was at the duty free store. There were at least twelve cashiers and every one of them had a line. I was hoping to be able to browse in the shop but it was way too hectic for that. Next time I will be a little more prepared!
