After a nine-hour flight from Calgary to London, eight hours in London's Heathrow Airport (most of which was spent in the Air Canada Lounge...the free snacks & drinks and comfy chairs make a world of a difference), and a two-hour flight to Stavanger we finally arrived in Stavanger, Norway. Since we got in at 10PM on Friday night, we didn't get a chance to see any of the city from the plane or feel like doing any exploring last night.
The weather was beautiful on the first day - it was a sunny 24oC, not the rain and 15oC that I had been expecting! The spectacular weather made it a perfect day for exploring the city centre by foot. We wondered through the numerous winding, cobblestone streets of Stavanger Sentrum and then down along the harbour. It's great to be so close to the water! In the city center, there are lots of restaurants and bars along by the water. The locals seem to be enjoying the nice weather by having drinks on the many harbour patios.
In our journeys today, we were able to locate our apartment and the nearest shops. We checked out the grocery stores and started to realize just how expensive things are here! A fact that was reiterated when we had a $60 dinner of a pop, a beer, and a medium pizza.
