Evrim and İ left Lattakia yesterday afternoon on a crowded service headed towards Kesab, a small Armenian dominated mountain resort a few kilometers south of the Turkish border. Kesab is small. Really small. It´s beautiful though. Really beautiful. It´s changing quickly. If we were to visit it again in a few years (inshAllah), we probably won´t recognize it. Luxury hotels are growing out of the sides of the mountain around the entire village. Tourism is big here. Mainly Syrian tourism, but Kesab gets it´s share of foriegners too. Today, we were it.

We sat and had tea (sadly, most tea in Syria is the Lipton or Lavalina teabag variety) and coffee overlooking the mountains in the distance where a raging wildfire burned out of control. We smelt burning timber with every light breeze. Kesab watched the fire with an interest and curiousity that outweighed any real concern.

We choose a restaurant that nıght because they made khubz tannoor and ate our last dınner ın Syria. We enjoyed a nice selectıon of mazza including the best kibbeh nayeh İ´ve had. Evrim got enough protein too (stop worrying Bird). Sat a long time wıth Serj, a pretty cool Armenian Syrian kıd from Kesab who worked at the restaurant ın the summers. He talked to us about life there, hard winters, and family.

In the morning, we set off to find ful and supplies we needed to complete our mission in Syria and cross the border into Turkey. İ made friends with a handful of the local gırls during our shopping and realized we haven´t really spoken to women in a few weeks. İt was hard to leave, but we piled ın a taxi and rode the 6 minutes to Turkey.
