hello friends and family...it's been too long since last we blogged...
much has happened in the interim, we have decided to stay in utila, Honduras until august 27ish. we are staying at Kirstin's friend Han's house.
we've purchased land out away from the town center. Shane has been sick with his own version of food poisoning for about 5 days. the other day we kayaked to the other side of the island through a small boat canal to pristine empty beaches and swam around in the bathtub of the Caribbean for an hour or so....Shane came home with a nice red sunburn.
other occurrences since we've blogged:
*there was a big island celebration called "carnival" in which most of the locals were in a parade and the floats were decorated golf carts and pickup trucks
*while sitting drinking and dining at the driftwood cafe one night - a catamaran full of 30 people from a wedding party pulled up to the driftwood dock and came in to have dinner/drinks. Shane being the people person that he is...found out they are from ellensburg, Washington (about 45 minutes down I-90 where we live), they had just gotten here from the states and continued over the next few days to follow us around and buy us drinks
*Kirstin went on a fun dive with Ann and Paul before they left the island, and was treated to see a school of dolphins- but she didn't get in the water fast enough to go swim with them
*we had a BBQ on the dock with Hilde and Joris - that morning they had gone deep sea fishing and caught a huge grouper and 6 barracudas - so they cooked them up and shared with the dive shop
*we went to the iguana station, a research and breding center for the endangered iguanas of utila, endangered because the locals eat them and the mangrove forests are being cut down
