Well, i made it to Australia. Only a 4 hr flight from Singapore and +2 hrs time difference. I arrived at the airport at 4.30 in the morining, so decided to sleep at the airport (found a couch) and find a hostel in the morning. I stayed at the airport until 7.00am when i dragged myself over to the only coffee bar in the airport (its pretty small) and got myself a morning coffee boost before taking the Shuttle Bus to the centre of Darwin. I eventually checked in at 12.00 at a cool hostel with free internet, pool, laundry service close to the centre of the city.
Darwins a very small city, but a very nice place, a very pleasant change to all those S.E Asian cities. Pretty much everythings the complete opposite, although Darwins pedestrian crossings do make a funny noise that sounds like someone firing a lazer gun, telling you when its time to cross... On my first day, i explored the harbour area and didn't realised that there's a lot of WWII History here. One interesting fact is that Darwin was bombed by the same fleet that bombed pearl harbour. Then yesterday i booked myself onto a Litchfield National Park Tour which was really good (i didn't quite know what to expect). On the tour i got to hold a crocodile! Then we went out on a boat down the Adelaide River where we found a Six Meter Crocodile, which the Tour Guide was luring with meat dangling from a stick to get him to jump out of the water alongside the boat! Watching a croc as long as your boat jump out of the water about 2 feet from where you sit is a pretty scary and totally amazing experience! And crocodiles can propell two thirds of their body out of the water, so that makes 4 meters of crocodile, jaws snapping launching itself into the air... Then we went onto Lichfield where we got educated about pretty much everything and wandered round the abundant Cathedral and Magnetic Termite mounds, which was really interesting... they really are amazing creatures. Afterwards we drove to 3 waterfalls, all of which were swimable and pretty refreshing. Also seeing as thats the only place where you can swim in the Northern Territory apart from Swimming Pools, it was worth doing. You can't swim in the sea because of Box Jellyfish, saltwater crocs and other aquatic nasties, and you cant swim in the river because of freshwater and saltwater crocodiles! So anyway, saw the sun set over the sea with champagne and Prawns and then got dropped off at the Darwin Night Market by the Beach where i got some Barramundi and Chips (very nice) and then went out for a few drinks in darwin with a few friends from the day. Today's my last day but i'm ready to leave for Alice Springs, i just wish it wasn't at 4 in the morning... The only problem with Austraila is that it isn't easy on the wallet!
