I was worried it would be difficult transiting from 10 weeks of hiking in Patagonia mountain ranges, to "civilisation" But the relaxing feel of this city compounded with the hostel I was in, made it a wonderful experience. I enjoy staying in hostels that are owned by family's and Hostal Acuarela was one of those. Ayin making me feel like I was part of it. One of the guys who worked there, Sebastien; plays keyboard in a Reggie/roots band
It was also refreshing having real coffee in the morning with wonderful home made bread.
Sitting in bed, studying Spanish to keep my teacher happy. I could admire the city's lights enthusiastically glowing as they curve around the harbour. Their reflexion bouncing off the ripples in the pacific. You could easily imagine the fun and excitement out there. Opening my eyes in the early morning was a peacefully warm experience. Waking up to the sunrise shining through the thick mist which rolled off the sea. This from the best bed eva! where I could gaze upon Valpo.
I decided to study Spanish here for three days and spent 1 day as a tourist in Vina Del Mar. I was tired of conversing in only the present tense. It wasn't cheap, but important non the less.
Hiking in Patagonia has, somewhat minimised my immunity against alcohol. Two nights in a row, I consumed more than my body could handle. Leaving me comered out way to early! in random places both times, waking up later, wondering where on earth I was. Followed by people speaking to me in Spanish for hours and me, pretending I understood. When all I wanted was for them to shut up, so I could bye a pizza. Although I did try a new type of mix. White wine in a blender with a variety of fruits. I don't recall what its called, but It was really nice... a bit too nice.
