Woke up super duper early to catch my 7:44 train to Berlin. Didn't want to miss it or have to run across town like in Oslo. Found my seat which I might say was kinda fancy. I have a seat in a little closed off section for 4 but I'm the only one in there. Grabbed my freebie blanket that I ganked from the night train and took a snooze. About 2 hours later I was woken up by the coolest most kick ass surprise!! "Excuse me please exit the train and board the fairy" half asleep I asked what train to get on after the fairy. "No, we are ON the fairy". Holy shit my train is on a f'in fairy! I didn't know they could do that!! So I wandered around the boat like a little kid. Got a coffee and went to the shops. Watched out the window with a goofy grin. It's the little things.

Met a very nice gentleman from East Berlin on the train. He told me about growing up with the wall. His family fled to Hungary and came back years later. It was a compelling tale and I'm glad to hear a personal story before arriving. He was going to work so I tagged along with him into the city. Glad he helped me figure out where the hell I was because the hostel wasn't close to the train station. People are so helpful over here.

Checked into the hostel and decided to take a walk down to the Berlin Wall memorial. It was peaceful and a great first stop. A bunch of high schoolers showed up and before I knew it I had about 5 boys swarming me whispering "I love you" to me. What the shit!?! It was so funny. I laughed so hard and I really think they didn't expect me to know what they were saying because they were cracking up too. Goofy boys. That's one thing I sure have noticed. The male species over here does not hold back on sharing their thoughts. I find this to be quite entertaining and sometimes humiliating/insulting.

I don't know what it is about this city but I really connect with the place. I walked around for hours with a dumb blissful grin. I feel like I've been here before or like I belong. Maybe it's the vibe. It has that toughness, not like a mean spirited toughness but like a resilience attitude. Kinda like Detroit but more free spirited.

Went back to the hostel for a couple huge beers. Met some ozzies (they are everywhere) from Geelong!! That's where my great friend Liz is from. We chatted about the beaches and the penguins on Phillip Island and then hit the casino. It was a great time. A couple of the ozzies were really young so they took to calling me great grandma. Cute...Fuckers.

Late night but I'm gonna drag my ass out of bed early to explore some more. Super excited! Actually I think this is the most excited I've been since I was preparing for the trip. I just really love this city.
