All 'ruined' out - I played hookey from this mad frenetic tourism race across the Southwest to have another down day and work on the blog some more. Most of the group went to Navajo National Monument, but other than to tell you that they had a great time and a bunch of them went on a long, 5 mile hike to see one of the better sites, I got nothing for you in terms of archaeology.

The 5 of us that stayed behind (me, Gil, Norma, Bertha and Dorothy) checked out late, and drove straight to Cameron, with a number of pit stops and highway shopping stops on the way. The interstate in this area is littered with little tourist traps selling Navajo jewellery and other crafts. So we took our time, stopped for lunch in Tuba, and got to Cameron a mere half hour before the rest of the group.

The big news for the travel blog for this day is the hotel we're staying in - the Cameron Trading Post & Lodge. This place is beautiful! Mostly fieldstone (or imitation adobe), and set around a lovely courtyard garden awash with blooming flowers with a maize of paths and a fountain in the middle. The rooms were beautiful too - ours was huge and very tastefully decorated in desert blue and dark pine, with hand carved furniture and katchina lamps. We even had our own balcony, overlooking the Little Colorado River. And all this for just $85 for a double room. Too bad we're just staying here one night!
