We arrived at the airport finally, I think about 2 hours late. We all headed to the carrousel after we got our passports stamped. Everyone from the plane waited 1 hour at the carrousel before we found out that none of us were getting our luggage. There were no BA employees anywhere. Probably smart on their part.
All of us had to wait in a very long line to fill out the paperwork for lost luggage. No one had any idea where our luggage was or when we would get it. Since we didn't have any big bags, we decided to take the train to get to our hotel. It was quite cold at the train station, and we had some time before our train was to arrive, so we got some cappucinos (decafinatos) to warm us up. They were really tasty and only 1.80 euros (unlike the 3.00-5.00 euros you pay in Paris).
The train (Leonardo Express) from Fiumicino airport to Roma Termini cost 11 euros each. After the train ride, we walked in the rain and cold (without umbrella or coats--since those things were in our lost luggage) to our hotel. Thankfully, it was close by. After we checked in, we had dinner across the street from the hotel. The little cafe was called, Est! Est!! Est!!!. We had mushroom pizza and spinach and cream farfalle, plus a 1/2 bottle of the house wine. The food was great, very light, unlike Italian food in the U.S. Their cappucino machine wasn't working, so we went to another place on the corner for dessert. This place was called, "Snack Bar Washington." We had the best, and biggest, piece of tiramisu ever.
Then we crashed in what was a nice room. At the back of our minds we were wondering what we were going to do about our luggage, since we would not be in Rome the next day. More thumbnails ...
